Stress Management and Wellness
How many of us can say we recognize stress flags? Ignoring symptoms often lead to consequences including but not limited to high blood pressure, incomplete sleep cycles, constipation, and decreased mental clarity. Ask yourself the following questions to assess whether you’re doing something to discourage stress from taking over.
*Am I aware when I clinch a muscle? (Making fists, stomach, etc.)
*Are my shoulders and ears best friends? This occurs when we hunch our shoulders up to our ears. This is one of the most popular ways that stress builds up in our neck and shoulder area.
*Am I breathing correctly? Proper breathing includes inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth at a relaxed pace. Practice this throughout your day – it’s great for stretch and mental breaks.
*Do I stretch every day? This is effective at preventing cramping, muscle spasms and muscle atrophy(deterioration).
*What part(s) of my day have I set aside for my mental break? This is a great time to practice proper breathing and just clear your mind of all things chaotic. Perhaps focusing on whatever scenes bring about tranquility to you for minutes at a time will work. The more of these that you allow time for throughout the day, the less time stress will have to take over.
Remember: Making a serious investment in your overall health begins with becoming aware of what Stress is and what type of symptoms your body exhibits when it's Stressed Out.
