Redefining the term "Single Mama" -  Any female who is more than 50% responsible for a child's emotional, physical, financial, and spiritual well being, regardless of whether they are related by blood, living in the same household as the child's father, birthed the child themselves, living in a couple/married environment, etc..  The reality is that there are women across this world every day who take care of children and are married to the fathers or live in the same households but the father is not participating as they should and are even requiring the same care as the child.  The reality is that there are women,who go by the name "Grandma, Nana, Auntie, etc." who for a variety of different reasons, have stepped in to raise children who else wise would have no one to do so properly.  And these women are doing so by CHOICE and doing a WONDERFUL job, hard as it may be.  SINGLE MAMA's, we salute you!!

A Single Mamapreneur is a Single Mama (See Definition above) who owns her own business and runs it full time or part time.  Whomever said it couldn't be done.....Hasn't met us!!

Founder of Tyunin's Breakthrough, Inc. (www.tyuninsbreakthrough.org) this SingleMamapreneur stops at nothing to encourage and offer hope to low-income single mothers.  Her perseverance is admirable and her drive unbeatable.  She credits the journey she's been on since having her child with inspiring her to be successful and give her daughter an achievable dream!



Founder of Tranquil Blessings, LLC. - Mobile Massage and Spa Company (www.tranquilblessings.com), this SingleMamapreneur was inspired to start Tranquil Blessings and the Stress Free Kid Zone through an obvious need she witnessed in her own family and community.  Being a single mother of two girls (12 and 5 yrs old) and the commitment to providing families with information on taking care of themselves is the force behind her drive!  Motivation for starting this site came from a couple of common but untrue rumors she heard often--Women couldn't come together and assist each other with promoting each other's business and Single Mama's had enough on their plate without trying to run businesses as well.  Well, whomever thought it couldn't be done, hasn't MET US!!

Co-owner of Indulge Mobile Spa (www.indulgemobilespa.com), covering VA, this SingleMamapreneur states "It is so empowering to own a business and be a single mom. Not only am I securing my daughter's future and leaving a legacy, I am taking control of my professional and financial destiny. There are plenty of excuses for not suceeding but your kid should not be one of them--- On the contrary, you should succeed BECAUSE of them. "

Founder of Tails of the City (www.tailsofthecitydc.com), this SingleMamaPreneur has been in the business of taking care of the DC region's dogs and cats for over 6-years and has realized early on that there was an ever-present pressure from society to put children second to a career or business.  She determined for herself that a compromise like that, she would never make.  Instead of conforming to the traditional work environment, she has chosen to create her own work environment that respects the needs of mothers and their children. Being a firm supporter of mothers and their need to make a living without sacrificing their desire to be a mother is why she's encouraged other mothers to work alongside her to expand Tails of the City into the Outer Regions of D.C..  Through business ownership as a Single Mama, she has learned a number of valuable lessons that she hopes her children absorb vicariously, two of the most important being that (1) One need not have a business degree, a store front or large upfront capital to start a business.  All one needs is commitment, strong work ethic and an undaunted spirit and (2) Her children are worth any sacrifice or shift in lifestyle or career. The more ways she can create a lifestyle where she can be an ever-present mother, the more she's reached her ideal state of happiness and success.

Founder of Dainty As She Wanna Be, Mobile Spa and Nail Lounge (www.msdainty.com), this Single Mamapreneur lives the motto that "Failure isn't an option for this single mama of two wonderful sons(10 and 7)".  Waking up every morning to her sons is enough motivation to bring her DREAMS into REALITY.  The more she spoke of her DREAMS, the more her children challenged her to make them happen.  Being able to inspire and refresh lives of other women through inspiring conversation and Touch Therapy has always been a consistent goal of hers.  Each day she feels blessed to be able to provide positive energy to women she encounters.  She states "The day I took control of my journey was the day my DREAMS began to unfold."  NEVER STOP DREAMING!!

Founder of Gigi's Childcare, located in Clinton, MD., this SingleMamaPreneur has been a pillar of her community and family long before she had her own child.  Always understanding and a shoulder to lean on, she has on more than one occasion lended a helping hand to a Single Mama who was trying to get her act together!  Since she's been blessed with an angel of her own and finds herself in a quasi-SingleMama environment, she draws on an inner strength everyone but her knew she had until now.
